Art director wanted

THE ECONOMIST is looking for an art director. The successful applicant will have excellent skills in design, both on the page and in digital media, as well as a proven ability to manage a large multi-disciplined department. We are looking for someone who has a background in publishing, with a mastery of typography and design, and who can commission artwork, review new artists and contribute to the representation of data and interactive graphics. He or she will also manage our teams of designers, picture editors and illustrators, the departmental budgets and our compliance with copyright and libel law. The job requires a grasp of our publishing systems, workflow and print production. The art director reports to the editor and is based in London. Salary negotiable.
