Ask The Economist
September 8th, 4pm UK / 6pm Egypt

We have written about the Islamic State, the brutal extremist group operating in Syria and Iraq, since its inception. Following American airstrikes in Iraq we argued that dealing with the group means quashing it in Syria too. Military might alone, we said, does not suffice: societies and politics must change too.

Sarah Birke (@sarah_birke) is The Economist's Middle East and North Africa correspondent. Based in Cairo, she used to live in Syria and has written extensively about the Islamic State. On Monday September 8th at 4pm UK / 6pm Egypt, she will be available on Twitter to answer your questions about the Islamic State and its expansion in Iraq and Syria. The discussion will appear in the space below and on Twitter via @econdiscuss. If you have a Twitter account you can leave a question or a comment for our journalists via Twitter.
