ECONOMIST FILMS is looking for a Social Video Producer/Editor to join the team, making content primarily for our 8m Facebook fans, as well as other social media platforms. This is an exciting, fluid, role where you will help to shape The Economist’s video output on Facebook, from re-cutting existing content, to creating your own. You will be the social video expert within Economist Films, advising the rest of our production team on what will get people talking and sharing, on what new trends there are and on what has done well and why.

Responsibilities

  • Re-edit content into optimised social media clips, using Adobe Premiere and After Effects
  • Produce and edit dedicated social video shorts on themes agreed with the Executive Producer
  • Advise production teams on best practice for creating clips for Facebook and other social media
  • Gain an understanding of changing viewing patterns and help our production teams consider how they might adapt their approaches
  • Work with the Audience Development Manager and The Economist’s data team to help in the strategic task of building our long-term audience across social media
  • Liaise with The Economist’s social-media team, including advising on optimum reposting of video content from our archive
  • Consult with external production companies on deliverables for social-media
  • Begin to develop your own slate of original ideas to pitch within the unit

Skills

  • Strong journalistic instincts
  • Impeccable written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven experience in a similar role
  • An ability to translate the voice, tone and values of The Economist into Facebook-friendly clips
  • An in-depth understanding of how Facebook works and how it is evolving
  • A strong editor: you will be editing your own clips in Adobe Premiere
  • Able to edit eye-catching content, with good visual storytelling
  • Proficient in using Adobe After Effects, or at least basic knowledge
  • A thorough understanding of The Economist's unique editorial voice
  • Bursting with ideas. The chance to make original content may arise

Applicants must be eligible to work in the United Kingdom. The Economist Group values diversity. We are committed to equal opportunities and creating an inclusive environment for all our employees. We welcome applicants regardless of ethnic origin, national origin, gender, race, colour, religious beliefs, disability, sexual orientation or age.
