Schumpeter | Rethinking Monopoly

Rules of the game

By J.F. | ATLANTA

THIS week in the print edition we plan to write about Hasbro's move to crowdsource new rules for Monopoly. It will allow fans to choose from an array of ten popular but unofficial house rules (such as receiving $400 rather than $200 for passing "Go"; collecting fees and taxes in the centre of the board and awarding them to players that land on Free Parking and requiring players to complete one full circuit of the board before they can start buying property). The most popular will become official rules. We suspect our readers can come up with some imaginative new rules in the Monopoly spirit that reflect the reality of doing business today. Suggestions in the comments section, please. We may mention in our article any we find particularly witty or apposite.
